Yachts come in various shapes, sizes, and styles, catering to the diverse preferences of maritime enthusiasts. Each yacht type offers different features and benefits which shapes the overall experience which is unique to each vessel.

Whether you are interested in chartering, purchasing or simply an admiring yacht enthusiast, here's a glimpse into the different types of yachts that grace the waters.

When is a boat a yacht?

‘Yacht’ is a broad term which encompasses vessels that have been designed for pleasure cruising. Yachts can range from modest sizes to larger, more luxurious options. Although there is no official definition, a boat is typically considered as a yacht when its total length exceeds 40 feet. The distinction between a yacht and a boat is defined by factors such as propulsion, size, style, amenities, and function. Yachts are usually intended for overnight use and have amenities such as a kitchen and a bathroom.

Yacht sizes

Whether a yacht is classed as a super yacht, a mega yacht or a giga yacht is dependent mainly on its size. However, super yachts, mega yachts and giga yachts tend to boast lavish interiors, state-of-the-art technology, and a crew to attend to every need, offering an unparalleled level of luxury.

Yacht: A yacht is typically at least 40 feet or 12 metres in length.
Super yacht: A super yacht is typically at least 78 feet or 24 metres in length.
Mega yacht: A mega yacht is typically at least 200 feet or 60 metres in length.
Giga yacht: The largest yachts in the world have a category of their own and typically are at least 300 feet or 90 metres in length.

Motor Yacht

Motor yachts are powered by engines, providing speed and efficiency. These yachts focus on comfort and often feature spacious interiors, making them ideal for cruising over longer distances with ease.

Sailing Yacht

Sailing yachts rely on wind power and are synonymous with elegance and tradition. They offer a serene sailing experience, with the rhythmic lapping of waves against the hull.

Multihull

Multihull yachts, including catamarans and trimarans, feature multiple hulls. Known for stability and increased deck space, they are popular choices for those seeking a different sailing experience.

Explorer style yachts

Explorer style yachts combine luxury with rugged capabilities. Designed for long-range cruising and exploration, these yachts are equipped to navigate diverse and challenging waters.
